Armoire receives a pretty makeover!

Many projects came my way this summer!

Here's my latest paint projects for one of my customer's.  I must say this was a big undertaking.  It was completely painted inside and out!


In order to create an antique french look here are the steps I followed:

STEP UNDERCOAT   Created a chalk paint formula = 2 tablesp. Paris Plaster + 2 tablesp water, mix well together (no lumps) then add to 1 cup of latex paint, eggshell finish.  Used paint color called Papier de Soie (light beige) from Sico.

STEP GLAZE, added antique white latex paint to the glaze... followed instructions on the label on the can. Used Faux Glaze purchased at Home Depot Montreal. 
STEP DISTRESS:  Sanded the edges with a medium grit #120 sand paper.  Finished with a light sand paper to smooth edges.
STEP DRY:  I let painted pieces cure for about 5 days before handing them over to the customers for transport.

Painted Dresser receives Vintage Charm Attitude!

Hello Everyone!

Latest paint project going Vintage:   Latex paint + Paris plaster + Water! Colors light grey + light and dark teal blue 

Steps I followed:

• Wash and sand
• 1st coat = 1 cup of light grey latex paint + (2 tablespoons Paris Plaster + 2 tablespoons of water mix together, then add to the grey paint ), mix very well.  I painted over the hardware in place...Gives it some vintage attitude!
• 2nd coat, same procedure as above but with a different color, in this case a darker teal blue
• Top finish with dry brush stroke in a light teal blue.
• Let dry overnight.
• Distress by sanding lightly....try to get all coats to peak trough in different spots from top to buttom.

This post is a three part series on how to pull different pieces together to complete a room without breaking the bank! Please see previous post.
Vintage-furniture fanatics love finding painted pieces that have just the right patina, its cracked layers of color just oozing with charm. You can shortcut that journey with contrasting colors of flat latex paint, Paris of plaster, water (recipe from previous post) and lots of distressing by sanding that will reveal glimpses of the base shade.  In this case there are three layers, the base is pine followed by white & teal paints.
The painted plaid top was created by using the strié or dry brush technique.  I simply dabbed the edge of the paint brush into the paint: 1. dragged it gently horizontally from left to right this will result in a stripe pattern, 2. Same method vertically from top to buttom this will result into a plaid pattern!.  Practice before on a plain board to get the results you want.  No artist will have the same results!  Yours will be perfect so enjoy and have fun!!! Hello Everyone!
Decorating on a budget can be a very big challenge but when you know how to pull things together without breaking the bank it becomes fun and gratifying.
I've recently opened up a big warehouse full of new and vintage furniture that is deeply discounted and that makes my customers smile.  Some are floor models that need sprucing up!  I will be demonstrating how to pull a look together using several dusty old pieces that I've painted in colors that are shown in the picture below! Courting Rustic Parisian Flair!

Hi guys!

If you have furniture in a room that is terribly plain and could use a paint makeover, painting them so that they have a great texture and color, or more specifically in this case, rustic linen, can create a visual punch that livens the space. Latest paint project:  Cream french style tables that did not aged gracefully.  The main coffee table top turned yellow compared to the others....Really not pretty!

So because of their parisien flair I created a french linen pattern on the top of the tables with a teal and grey combo.  The legs where painted in a soft grey.

It was a really fast, fun and easy to do!

Main material lists:

• Behr Premium Ultra Paint and Primer in One, Satin (I appreciate it because it saved me time)
• Paint color (teal) Underwater # UL220-23 
• Paint color (grey) Painter's white # PPU18-8 
• Two Soft paint brush (one for blending the teal and grey colors) (one for only painting with the grey color)

 How-To create a linen coffee table top...My steps

1. Completly painted the surface in a soft grey using Behr paint & primer in one. I turned the piece upside down for easier cleaning and for painting those little feet haha...see photo below. Let dry overnight, I find it needs to cure (even if it does dry fast) a little before moving to the next step.

2. Photo 2, results from the paint combo, steps 3 & 4                                                                                   3 & 4.  Dribbled 1 part grey color with one part teal color.  Blend together with your paint brush...The surface will look like a soft cloud.   

5. Dry brush technique:  I Dipped lightly brush into grey paint, dabbed it onto a piece of paper to take the excess off. First I went across the table top in an horizontal sweep, starting from left to right. I,ve create a very rustic look...So it does'nt matter if you can't make it from one end to the other in one stroke.

Before starting to paint, I like to turn the piece upside down. It receives a good cleaning and the feet are easier to paint.
